Narration


1. He said to me, "When will you go to Delhi? I shall send my brother with you."

 He asked me when I would go to Delhi and said that he would send his brother with me.

2. I asked Rita what she was doing. Rita replied that she was preparing her lesson.

 I said to Rita, "What are you doing?" "I am preparing my lesson," said Rita.

3. Ramen said to the boy, "What's the matter? Why are you crying? Be cheerful."

 Ramen asked the boy what the matter was and why he was crying. He (Ramen) also asked him to be cheerful.

4. My friend told me that he was very thirsty and requested me to give him a glass of water.

My friend said to me, "I am very thirsty. Please give me a glass of water."

5. The boy said to the teacher, "Sir, I am weak in English and seek your advice."

"Read the text thoroughly and try to express your ideas in simple correct English," said the teacher.

 The boy told the teacher that he was weak in English and sought his advice.

6. I asked my friend why he looked so sad. He replied that his father was seriously I'll and there was little hope for his recovery.

 I said to my friend, "Why do you look so sad?" He said, "My father is seriously ill. There is little hope for his recovery".

7. "I've just bought a car," said Peter, "But it isn't insured yet. So I cannot take you for a ride."

Peter said that he had just bought a car but it wasn't insured till then. So, he could not take me for a ride.

8. The man said that they had been there for two and a half years and we're going to stay another six months.

 The man said, "We have been here for two and a half years. We are going to stay another six months."

9. The traveller said to the peasant, "Can you show me the nearest inn?" "Yes", said the peasant.

 The traveller asked the peasant if he could show him the nearest inn. The peasant replied that he could.

10. She said to her son that she was old and lonely and asked him if he had no pity on her loneliness.

She said to her son, "I am old and lonely. Don't you have pity on my loneliness?"

11. "Nothing can be avoided," said Caesar, "Which the gods have purposed. These omens appear to everyone, not only to Caesar".

 Caesar said that nothing could be avoided which the gods had purposed. He added that those omens appeared to everyone, not only to Caesar.

12. When John asked Marry whether she would help him, she replied that she would.

When John said to Marry, "Will you help me?" Marry said, "Yes, I will".

13. He said, "I do not wish to see any of you. Go away."

 He said that he did not wish to see any of them and asked them to go away.

14. The traveller asked the peasant if he could tell him the way to the nearest inn. The peasant replied that he could.

 The traveller said to the peasant, "Can you tell me the way to the nearest inn?" "Yes", said the peasant.

15. "Rashmi" Karan said, "I have a very important matter to discuss with you today, so you must give me your attention".

 Karan told Rashmi that he had a very important matter to discuss with her that day and so she had to give him her attention.

16. The teacher ordered Joe to stand up and asked him why he had not prepared his lesson. He also told him that he would write to his (Joe's) father.

The teacher said to Joe, "Stand up. Why haven't you prepared your lesson? I shall write to your father".

17. Rohit said to his friends, "Let us go and help the flood affected people."

 Rohit suggested to his friends that they should go and help the flood affected people.

18. I asked Priyam what she was doing. Priyam replied that she was preparing her lessons.

 I said to Priyam, "What are you doing?" "I am preparing my lessons", said Priyam.

19. I said to him, "How long will you stay?" He replied, "for five days."

 I asked him how long he would stay. He replied that he would stay for five days.

20. The boy humbly requested the teacher to excuse him and promised that he would never do so again.

The boy said to the teacher, "Excuse me, sir. I will never do so again."

21. Raji asked her friends if they were ready to go with her. They wanted to know what her intention was.

Raji said to her friends, "Are you ready to go with me?" "What is your intention?", said they.

22. The boy requested that he might be allowed to get in. But the teacher said, "No".

The boy said, "Let me get in please." But the teacher forbade him to get in.

23. "Why aren't you wearing chappals?" I ask one boy. "My mother did not bring them down from the shelf", he answers simply.

I ask one boy why he isn't wearing chappals. He answers simply that his mother didn't bring them down from the shelf.

24. The lady said to the salesman, "What is the price of this Barbie doll?" The salesman said to her, "It is a bit expensive. But I can give it to you at a 20 percent discount."

 The lady asked the salesman what the price of that Barbie doll was. The salesman replied to her that it was a bit expensive but he could give it to her at a 20 percent discount.

25. One day Mohan told me that he would become a doctor and leave Assam. I asked him if he knew anything about medicine.

 One day Mohan said to me, "I shall become a doctor and leave Assam." I said to him, "Do you know anything about medicine?"

26. "Where do you go every Sunday?" I asked the girl. She replied, "I go to the church".

 I asked the girl where she went every Sunday. She replied that she went to the church

 The speaker thanked the ladies and gentlemen for giving him a kind hearing. He also added that when he arrived there the previous day he did not believe that he might meet so large a gathering.

30. His mother exclaimed in sorrow that she had not a bit of bread to give him and that he had eaten up all the provisions she had in the house the previous day.

His mother said, "Alas! I have not a bit of bread to give you. You ate up all the provisions I had in the house yesterday."

 செப்டம்பர் 20,1798: கப்பத்தொகை பாக்கி பற்றிய பேச்சு வார்த்தை நடத்த இராமநாதபுரம் அலுவலகத்தில் வந்து தன்னை சந்திக்கும்படி கலெக்டர் ஜாக்சன் கேட்டுக் கொண்டதற்கு இணங்க கட்டபொம்மன் அங்கு சென்றார். ஆனால் கலெக்டரோ குற்றாலம் சென்று விட்டார்.  கட்டபொம்மனும்  ஆகஸ்ட் 27ஆம் தேதி முதல் விடாமல் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து குற்றாலம், சிவகிரி, சாத்தூர், ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர் ஆகிய ஊர்களுக்கு பயணம் செய்து இறுதியில் செப்டம்பர் 19ஆம் தேதி ராமநாதபுரம் வந்து சேர்ந்தார்.  20ஆம் தேதியான இன்று ஜாக்சனை பார்க்க அனுமதி வழங்கப்பட்டது. கட்டபொம்மனும் அவரது வக்கீல் சுப்பிரமணிய பிள்ளையும் உட்காரக்கூட அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை. ஏறக்குறைய மூன்று மணி நேரம் நிற்க வைத்தே பேச்சு வார்த்தை நடந்தது.  கட்டவேண்டிய பாக்கி கப்பம் 1080 பகோடாவிற்காக கட்டபொம்மனை கைது செய்ய முற்பட்ட போது மாறுவேடத்தில் வந்திருந்த ஊமைத்துரையும் அவனது போர் வீரர்களும் ஆங்கிலப்படை வீரர்கள் மீது பாய்ந்து கட்டபொம்மனை விடுவித்துச் சென்று விட்டனர். இங்கு நடந்த இக்கலவரத்தில் ஆங்கிலேய அதிகாரி லெப்ட்டினன்ட் கிளார்க் உட்பட பல ஆங்கில வீரர்கள் பலியானார்...

மனங்களை வென்றவர்

 பெரும் சாம்ராஜ்யம்... நூற்றுக்கும் அதிகமான நாடுகளில் டாடாவின் விஸ்வரூபம்... ஆனால் எந்தக் காலத்திலும் உலகக் கோடீஸ்வரர்கள் பட்டியலில் அவர் பெயர் வந்ததில்லை... லாபத்தில் 3இல் 2 பங்கை அறம் சார்ந்த பணிகளுக்கு செலவிட்டவர்... கோவிட் காலத்தில்  அரசாங்கத்துக்கும் அறப்பணிகளுக்கும்  என அவர்  அள்ளி வழங்கிய செல்வத்துக்கு எந்தக் கணக்கிலும் அளவு காண முடியாது... அஜ்மல் கசாப் உள்ளிட்ட பாகிஸ்தான் தீவிரவாதிகள்  கண்ணில்பட்ட மனிதர்களையெல்லாம் கொன்று குவித்த போது மும்பையிலேயே பெரியதான அவருடைய தாஜ் ஹோட்டல் தீயிடப்பட்டது. உள்ளே தீவிரவாதிகளிடம்  சிக்கிகொண்டவர்களைக் காப்பாற்ற ராணுவம், காவல்துறை எல்லாம் போராடிக்கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில் தன் பாதுகாப்பைப் பற்றிக் கவலைப்படாமல்  தீயணைப்பு வீரர்கள் அருகே அவர்  தெருவில் இறங்கி நின்ற காட்சியை யாராலும் மறக்க முடியாது.  தன்னலம் மறந்த அந்த மாமனிதர் இன்று இல்லை.  அளவிட முடியாத செல்வத்திலும் சராசரி மனிதனாகவே வாழ்ந்து வந்தவர்... இந்தியாவால் எதுவும் முடியும் என்ற சிந்தனையை  ஒவ்வொருவர் மனதிலும் ஆழப்பதித்தவர்... எளிய மனிதர்களைப்...
