I think, therefore I am.
—Rene Descartes
To think means: To have an opinion, to use your mind.
This is a philosophical quote. It is a reminder that there is no one in the
world who thinks exactly like you.
On an ever-deeper level, Descartes was trying to prove that because we are
able to think, we must be real.
People study philosophy for years, so don’t worry if you don’t quite get it!
When you’re saying something that is an opinion and not a fact, you can use the word “think.”
It’s also the right word to use if you’re not sure about something (i.e.
I think it will rain), or even to suggest something (i.e.
I thought we might go swimming later).
