Pica
Eating non-edible
things like paper, wood, charcoal, paint, cloth, mud, chalk, pencil lead, raw
grains etc. is called pica.
It is seen in the children who are emotionally disturbed.
It is also seen in pregnant women.
Anorexia Nervosa:
It is a strong desire to lose weight.
Thus, the person eats very less and becomes thinner and thinner.
The person may induce vomiting or take purgatives frequently.
He / she may suffer from sever malnutrition and disorders arising out of this.
The person is
usually depressed.
Bulimia:
It is an intense urge to eat more.
The person keeps eating and puts on weight.
These individuals have to be treated by medicines and counselling.
Behaviour therapy is also in
use.
