India is a rural country with two
third of its population residing in rural areas. The rural economy of India has
continuously been supporting and contributing to the economy of India. Studies
show that even when there was slowdown in overall economy, the rural economy
still showed the growth and helped in difficult times.
The rural
economy is the backbone of India. The Indian economy is characterized by the
dominance of agriculture. The rural economy is an example of agrarian economy.
Although farming and agriculture are one
of the most important primary activities, the problem lies in the fact that
they share in the GDP of sector. Modern technologies should be incorporated.
Rural areas need drastic changes like infrastructure, literacy, poverty etc..
